Pilots and military aircrew are trained to recognise conventional aircraft lighting, understand flight profiles, estimate bearings and communicate observations using standard terminology. The horizon can disappear

This distinction matters. A trained observer may correctly report:

  • when the observation occurred;
  • where they were located;

  • What exactly did the witness observe? Separate direct observation from later interpretation.
